user defined fields in an item versus in a folder
We recently imported our Outlook data as part of a move to a new computer.
We have Outlook 2003. I am having 2 problems: 1 - the Custom views I had on the old PC no longer appear. Is there a way to access those? If not, I can live with this by recreating the views, but that leads to my 2nd problem... 2 - fields that were user-defined and available as User-defined fields in this folder before are now only showing up as user-defined fields in this item. I can no longer select those fields as part of custom view. How to I make those user defined fields available within the folder? |

Answer to 2nd question......
Create a new dummy contact and add the fields you need to it - making sure they are the same as found in all other existing contacts. These will now appear in the "Within Folder" list. Outlook's import process doesn't add any user-defined fields for an item to the "folder's list" as you've found out. Karl PS - Using Outlook's Export/Import process (or even ours for that matter) is not the recommended approach for moving data from one computer to another (but we do add UDF's to the folder list for point of interest when importing :-) - still not the best way to migrate tho). __________________________________________________ ___________ ContactGenie - Importer 1.3 / DataPorter 2.0 / Exporter "Power contact importers/exporters for MS Outlook '2000/2007" http://www.contactgenie.com "Jen" wrote in message ... As Karl said, export/import is the wrong procedure. If you had simply moved the .pst file to the new computer and made it the default store for your new mail profile on that machine, you'd have all the data and all the views and all the field definitions intact. It's probably not too late to just go ahead and do that.
