editing a data validation list
I have Excel 2007 and have Data Validation lists that need to be edited. The list is called EMPLOYEE and lists all of the possible employees that might be assigned to perform a task. We have hired new employees and need to modify the list. I have added the 2 new employees to the list and sorted the list alphabetically. When I use the list in a Data Validation setting the 2 new employees are in the list but the last 2 employees on the list are gone.
I tried going to Formulas, Defined Names, Define Name and redefining the range of data that makes up the list called EMPLOYEE. However, when I hit OK I get the following error, The name entered already exists. Enter a unique name. Is there a way to edit a defined list or am I forced to create a new list with a new name? Thank you as always... denny |

In the FORMULAS section, next to the "Define Name" button, there should be
another button called "Name Manager". Use this, select the name you want to change, then click "Edit". NOTE: You could also just hit CTRL-F3 to bring up the Name Manager. I never thought to click the Name Manager icon. For whatever reason I always thought that image was just a Title Image announcing that the three buttons to the right were for managing names. Thank you as always; it worked perfectly. denny |
