'Distribution Lists' versus 'Personal Distribution Lists'
When I try to compose a rule (with a wizard) in Outlook 2000 I'm offered the opportunity of including people in a distribution list.
However when I choose a list, Outlook tells me that I've chosen a 'personal distribution list' and that it 'can't be used in this process...'. Is there some subtle difference between a 'Distribution List' and a 'Personal Distribution List'??? |

'Distribution Lists' versus 'Personal Distribution Lists'
No. They're the same thing, but they are among the buggiest of Outlook's
"features." I don't recall rules in Outlook 2000 even supporting the use of DL's but I haven't used that version for many years. It appears my recollection may be correct. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Pete The Oz" pete@australia wrote in message ... No, not correct, Russ. DLs are there, it just seems as though PDLs and DLs are treated differently, or the concept is unfinished, as you suggest.
Off to Office 2003 is it? Great. (PS Not likely, Bill.) "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: No. They're the same thing, but they are among the buggiest of Outlook's "features." 'Distribution Lists' versus 'Personal Distribution Lists'
I know DL's are there. That's not what I said. But Outlook 2000 was the very
first version to include DL's and their implementation was poor (still is, by the way). What I said was, I'm not sure rules in Outlook 2000 could use the information in DL's reliably. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Pete The Oz" pete@australia wrote in message ... (Ah, I see what you mean, Russ. Actually you said only that you didn't recall Olk2k rules supporting DLs. Only now have you referred to it doing so 'reliably'.)
But pity about so little progress being made to date on DLs. Looks as though another work-around is called for. Thanks for your insight. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: I know DL's are there. Many of us have avoided the pitfalls of DL's by making use of Categories or
Contact subfolders instead. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Pete The Oz" pete@australia wrote in message ... (Ah, I see what you mean, Russ.
