How to turn off auto positioning
I'm using Visio 2003 enterprise edition and am building a database diagram
with lots of complex relationships. I'm trying to position the tables in a layout that makes sense and is easy to read. However, when I place tables in certain locations, the relationship lines around them automatically move around the tables which in response to their new positions, move other tables away from them, and so on and so forth. Can I turn off this auto positioning so I can manually position all of the lines and tables? Also, sometimes I want a line to go around the outside of a group of tables, but Visio forces it to go where it wants to. I may want the line to go around the group and attach to the top of another table, but Visio forces the line to take a different path and attach to the side of the table rather than the top. How can I gain detailed control of this? Thanks. -- |

I wish I knew the "right" answer.
I can tell you that I've had some good luck using the arrow keys to nudged selected objects (sometimes many at once), rather than dragging them with the mouse. When I drag them, they scramble themselves (after I've carefully aligned/distributed them, too!), but selecting them, then nudging them seems to work much better. Getting the relationship lines to go where you want them to is a mystery... I hope someone will post the answer here.
