No - for this reason:

He frequently posts incorrect information about Access, coupled with
bad advice that people would do best to ignore. For example:
- You have to spend lots of time continually relinking tables;
- Access can not handle nested queries, so you should not use them;
- Access can not handle subqueries, so you should not use those either,
and so on.

It's important to reject those statements publically, so other people
reading them, now or in future, can take them with a grain of salt.
Otherwise, the usefulness of these newsgroups is gradually eroded, as
more and more personal prejudices are posted in the guise of facts.

People who read his posts, & my replies, soon see what is going on, and
are free to ignore us both, when we speak to each-other. I already
tried to broker a peace agreement:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...bb2fc97f8bf9fb
but he broke that agreement, and has gone back to posting incorrect
information, and bad advice.

As soon as he stops posting incorrect information, and bad advice, in
public technical newsgroups, I will stop getting into him. Believe me,
there are far more things that I'd rather do with my time; for example,
answer questions in these newsgroups!

Cheers,
TC [MVP Access]

Wow!

As an Access developer who works almost exclusively with ADPs and MSDE (I am
a SQL Server Magazine Innovator award winner for 2003), and as someone who
knows most of the Access MVPs personally, I have to say you are quite
mistaken about most MVP's capabilities. Some of them do prefer Jet, for
reasons of their own situation and requirements. While I do not prefer Jet,
I still answer questions in this newsgroup, assuming the questions are
mostly for Jet. It can be difficult to get some of the more complex
solutions running.

I have spoken with many of my MVP colleagues and encouraged their use of SQL
Server. None of them lacks competence to do so, but they are using their
best judgment in selecting Jet for their needs. I do not have the same
needs, and am in no position to try to judge theirs. When they tell me that
Jet is faster for their purposes, I take it with a grain of salt. I
personally have performed some of the more difficult challenges I have faced
using both Jet and SQL Server. In some cases, I have found that a SQL
Server solution can be 500 times as fast when things get really difficult.

I suggest that TSQL and VBA are not competing solutions for most purposes.
But, yes, given those purposes for which either could be used, I'd choose
SQL Server.

So, if you're happy with this, I'm one who does promote the ADP as an
excellent solution. For my development needs it is really indispensable.
The MVPs I know have never even taken issue with my convictions on this.
Given the same challenges, I believe most of them would soon see the need
and would work with ADPs or with MDBs and pass-thru queries to MSDE. They
are very good at making strategic decisions and adopting new technologies
when warranted.

They would argue that, in it's niche, MDBs and Jet do very well, indeed. I
also agree with this. I'm not out to proselytize them, but I have made sure
they understand an alternate viewpoint. This they have respected. As soon
as they realized I wasn't out to act superior and denegrate what they do,
everything has been fine.

As has been said, you catch more flies with honey. Please give it a try!

Hi Tony,

I've been posting almost daily a bit over 3 months now. I just haven't
crossed paths with you till now.

Hope everything is well with you!

So, have you given up avoiding controversy? :-)

Chuckle!
