Default Contact recovered errors

Hi,

I had a computer failure and replaced my system with a new one. I was able
to recover my mail file, outlook.pst. I reinstalled Office on my new machine
and then replaced the new outlook.pst file with my old one. It was a while
ago and I can't recall whether the old name was outlook.pst or mailbox.pst
and I renamed it when I replaced it.

All functions worked properly and I had my old folders and email. The only
thing that doesn't work properly is the contacts. When I go to view contacts
by clicking on the contacts button in the lower left side, it displays my old
contacts properly. When I try to access the contacts to insert into the
address of a new mail message, I get an error:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help."

The dialog box has only an OK button. I click the OK button and I get the
expected Select Names dialog box , but without any data displayed. If I
click on the "Show Names from the:" drop down list I see, three entries, the
Outlook Address Book, Contacts (which is the default), and and contacts
recovered - which contains my data.

Is there some way to get Outlook toautomatically recognize the contacts
recovered file or to move the data from the contacts recovered to the
contacts list?

Thanks,
-Mike

I followed your directions. Following the step "Click Change" I was
presented with a dialog box with two identical, selectable listings
under "Outlook Address Books". Both are named "Contacts:Personal
Folders"

The only options I have are 1) a button titled "Remove Address Book"
and 2) radio buttons under show names by.

Should I remove an address book? How do I determine which one?
Does it even matter which one?

Remove them both, stop and restart Outlook, then right-click your COntacts
folder, choose Properties, click the Outlook Address Book tab and check the
box labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". Click OK. That
should clear it up.
