Email "To:" issue
I've used outlook 95 then 2000 and now upgraded to 2003. I also synch with
an IPAQ. Now when I hit the "To:" on a new email and type the last name of a contact, only some of my contacts appear while the others will apear only if I type their first name or do an advanced search. I don't see any pattern or consistency. When I open my contact list, all of the names are filed alphabetically by the last name. I'd like all of my contacts available by the last name when I hit "To:" or "CC:" when sending an email. What happened and how can I fix this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

Email "To:" issue
Your post is unclear. We cannot tell if you are using autocompletion or
autoresolution. Are you trying to use the To: field or the To: button? "Contact list" has no clear meaning. If you are asking how to sort the Outlook Address Book view, that has been posted countless times here. Go to Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing directories or address books Outlook Address Book Change… Set your sort order there Note that your options are only to sort by "First, Last" or by "File As." So if you want your Outlook Address Book to sort by "Last, First," or by "Company" you must have your Contacts' File As fields configured that way. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "jp" wrote in message ... Email "To:" issue
Thanks for your response. Let me clarify. First, I've no issue with my
contact list or my address book. All is sorted by Last name and I can find anyone I need to. My issue is only when sending an email. I'll go through the steps. Let's assume I want to send an email to both John Doe and Jack Smith. In my Mail folder in Outlook, I start a "New" email. Then I click on the "To:" button to address the communication. If I type Doe, then John Doe's name appears as a choice to add (his last name brings him up in search). BUT should I type Smith, then other S... names appear but not Jack Smith. So, I'll type Jack and Jack Smith comes up (his first name brings him up in the search and not his last). I am perplexed. When I look at the contact cards, all are listed as Last,First. When I pull up the names, the last name really is in the last name spot. On my handheld, I don't have this issue when searching. I have compared entries of names in Outlook side by side and don't see any difference in the listing. I don't have any differnt autocomplete settings. So, this is not an issue with sorting in my address book. Any ideas would be appreciated. Hope this clarifies it. JP "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Your post is unclear. Email "To:" issue
Guess what. I think I solved the issue.
When I open the "Name Fields" and look at the "Full Name" entry, if it says "john Doe" then the button will bring him up if I type Doe. If it says Doe, John, the button brings him up by John. How my entries wound up with differnt entries in this field is beyond me. Perhaps it depends upon which mode of entry I used over the years, the Hand held that was then synched, or entering it into Outlook and synching it to the handheld. Anyway, I'm noww going to goo through all 500+ contacts and make sure the name order in this field which has no bearing on the sorting and listing status, is uniform. Does this make sense?
