Email links open in Browser, not Outlook?
"Mailto" links I click try to open in Internet Explorer
instead of Outlook, and result in tens of instances of IE firing up - all naturally failing to display anything useful! Only way out I have found is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill IE from Task Manager. I have Outlook 2002 (SP3) installed on XP Home. Outlook is set as the default Email program, confirmed in Internet Settings in IE. Works the same irrespective of whether the email link is clicked in IE, Outlook messages, or a Word doc. IE version is 6.2 SP2. Not sure how relevant this next bit is, but ... When I installed Office XP (including Outlook) on a new laptop I was still using Outlook Express as my email client. Even then, this syndrome was evident. I had real trouble after I first installed Office XP, trying to persuade IE that OE was the default email program - kept reverting to Outlook (presumably knowing it had been installed when I installed Office).I only moved over to Outlook from OE a couple of months back. Anyone got any ideas, please? Rgds, Ian |

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately I can't see any evidence of a URL:MailTo Protocol entry in the registered file types there. I thought about creating a new one, but that entry isn't listed as an option in the 'advanced' list. Trying 'new' under 'Associated file type' insists on a file extension being entered. Tried NONE, (NONE) and similar variants, but to no effect - created an association for '.NONE' files!. Any further advice, please? Any further advice, please? Try this: In IE, click ToolsInternet OptionsProgramsReset Web Settings. It may not work, but it's worth a shot. -- Brian Tillman |

for those who might be following this thread the problem was corrected by
setting another email client to default in IE Properties and then changing the default back to Outlook. "Ian" wrote in message ... Thanks for that.
