I have just upgraded from MS office professional, and with outlook 2003 I can
stop it doing a send/recieve on starting, and just check my e-mails manually,
but for the life of me I can't stop it happening with 2007 - where can if
adjust this setting???

Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 do this exactly the same way. Press
Alt-Ctrl-S to bring up the Send/Receive Group dialogue and uncheck the boxes
labeled "Schedule an automatic send/receive every". If you have a
send/receive interval defined, Outlook will perform a send/receive when it
starts. If you don't have a send/receive interval defined, you need to
perform a send/receive manually. If you have "Send immediately when
connected" checked on ToolsOptionsMail Setup, your messages will do out
whether or not you click Send/Receive. If you want Outlook to hold your
outgoing messages in Outbox until you press Send/Receive, then disable that
option as well.
