Hi All,

At work I have to use the web portal to read the groups. At home I have OE
set up as my newsreader. (OE6 on XP Home addition).

I recently posted a message from home, set the watch on it (using the
glasses icon). I looked from work the next day and bingo - problem solved.
Curious as to how OE6 would show the replies, I checked again at home.
However, no replies showed up - the watch was set to the original post, and I
checked but there were no replies attached to it, even though I could clearly
see them through the web portal.

I used a link from an XP newsgroup to set up OE as my newsreasder so I'm
*sure* I did things correctly (at least, I can get messages), but sometimes I
can't see the replies through OE that I can see through the web portal. It
has happened at least once more on another thread I was following.

It seems to be happening only in the powerpoint newsgroup - so maybe that's
a factor, but maybe it's something in the settings? If anyone has any ideas
or needs more information about this problem, (you will need to be specific
about what you need me to tell you) I'd be really grateful.

If there's a website with an article on how to use OE really effectively for
newsgroups, I'd also be grateful for a link. I have seen many that show how
to set it up properly for use, but not much on then how to use it really well.

Thanks,

Fiona Nelson

There is a bug when getting the next xxx headers in that it does not always
get the newest ones. Go to Tools | Options | Read and uncheck the option to
download xxx headers at a time. Then go back to the newsgroup and then see
if you get all the messages.

Fiona

Steve has made a suggestion regarding retrieving the missing message. If
that does not work try resetting the newsgroup and downloading the
messages again. If you are looking for replies to your own messages try
using the View option -View, Current View, Show Replies to my messages.

You might find the following link helpful for using Outlook Express:

Hope this helps.

Thanks to both Steve and Gerry for your replies. I have been tracking this
through work - for the obvious reason - so when I get home I'll try the
suggestions and report back.

Gerry the link you sent looks to have exactly the sort of info I'm looking
for!

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. They both worked. I htink it was
definitely that I has limited the number of replies (didn't know I could
change it! Thought it was just a default)

Fiona Nelson - from home!
