Trouble with imported contacts
Hello,
I moved some email addresses from Access to Outlook 2002 using the following procedu I exported the Access data as a .csv file. (I massaged the file manually to make it consistent.) - sometimes I imported the file into Outlook in a new folder that I put under Contact. I set the property on that folder to make it act as a contact folder. The addresses show up in the folder as contacts. I can open each contact. They look normal given that they just have names and email addresses. But. The contacts are all but unusable. When I use the To button on a new message the contacts show up in the left hand pane but when I try to copy them to the address field, they come up blank. If I copy more than one I just get semicolons. If I try to create a distribution list, the same thing happens. I can see and select the contacts, but when I hit OK to finish moving the addresses, the list is empty. If I open and save a contact, it still comes up blank when I try to add it to an email or distribution list. If I open up a contact and hit the button "New Message for Contact" the address comes up *properly* in an empty email! I tried exporting the list from Outlook and importing it again but that did not help. What's going on and is it fixable? Thanks, Steve |

Trouble with imported contacts
Importing Contacts often fails to resolve the addresses, so you will not be
able to use the Outlook Address Book. You can open and save each Contact to resolve the address or use one of the third party utilities that fix this bug with importing. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Stephen Quist" wrote in message ... Trouble with imported contacts
I tried opening and saving several of the records to no avail. Those records
behaved just as the others. Can you point out some of the 3rd party tools that might resolve this problem? Also, is this same bug present in Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007? Trouble with imported contacts
No, I can't. I have no time to keep up with third party software. Usually
one of the purveyors will answer soon with their commercial. Importing is a permanent bug with Outlook, including Outlook 2007. AFAIK, Microsoft has no intention of fixing it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Stephen Quist" wrote in message ... I tried opening and saving several of the records to no avail. Trouble with imported contacts
You can try either of our import products (ContactGenie Importer or
DataPorter) depending on your needs (feature list=http://www.contactgenie.com/cg20features.htm - download=http://www.contactgenie.com/cg20dlorder.htm) . We have no knowledge of there ever being a problem importing email addresses with either of our products which have been around for several years. The evals are "full function" limited only to the number of records that can be imported. If you do encounter a problem, do send the issue to CG Support (CG products are NOT supported via this newsgroup) since it would be considered a very high interest/priority item and dealt with as such. Trouble with imported contacts
And may I add my thanks, Karl, for your continued clean-up of the omissions that Microsoft continues to make.
