Cross reference book marks are changing format, why is this happen
I have put text form fields in my document set it at 40 characters in length
and checked the "calculate on exit" button. I then inserted cross references to these form fields. The text is transfered to the fields but the formatting is not correct. The first and second group of characters had the formatting that I set to that particular cross reference but all the other groups of characters are set at the font size in the origional text form field. At the space in the words the formatting changes. Ex) Mr. Mike Jones PHD is the form field text. The "Mr. Mike" is at the desired size. The "Jones PHD." is at the text form field size. I want it all to be the same font size. Please help. |

A cross reference is simply a REF field. select the field and Press ALT+F9
and add a Charformat switch eg { REF Text1 \h \*Charformat } Press F9 to update. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org James wrote: I have put text form fields in my document set it at 40 characters in length and checked the "calculate on exit" button. Mr. Mayor,
Your advice did the trick, thank you. I do have one more question. The ref fields in question are at the bottom left of the page and I have an automatic date field in the lower right, there is no header or footer. The alignment is good but when the REF field is filled in, some of the date fields shift to the middle of the line from their orgional position at the right hand side. On 2 pages they stay and on the other pages they move. Can you help with this? Without seeing the document I can only guess, but it sounds like you have a
problem related to TABs. Check your tab settings for that line. Alternatively use an unbordered table with the column width fixed. If the fields appear on every page, why aren't they in the footer? There is a problem of updating REF fields in a footer, but that is not insurmountable - or you could use a Styleref field to place the information. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org James wrote: Mr. Mayor, Your advice did the trick, thank you. My take is that there is a \* CharFormat switch involved. These are
notorious for applying formatting capriciously to just the number of characters originally selected. -- Suzanne S. Mr. Mayor,
I did delete the area between the fields at the bottom of the page and entered the tabs again. This worked. I did not use header/footer because the test form fields were not working in the header/footer. It would have been nice to use them. Do you know how? Thank again. You can't put form fields in a footer, but you can reproduce information
from fields in the text area using REF fields - it may be necessary to use an update macro on exit from the form field in question to ensure the field in the header is updated. It will certainly be necessary to check the calculate on exit check box of the form field. You will find suitable macro code at http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org James wrote: Mr. Mayor, I did delete the area between the fields at the bottom of the page and entered the tabs again.
