Custom Properties
I am working in Visio 2003 and have a basic diagram with existing custom
properties. I want to know how to make the values of the custom properties visible on my drawing. Some values are visible and some are not. I'm not sure how to select or deselect elements to display. -- PAG |

Custom Properties
Thanks for the information. I am still unable to display the custom property
elements that I need, because the shape won't allow me to access the "Actions" section of the Shapesheet. I feel like I'm getting closer, but not quite there yet. The problem is that I did not create the original drawing so I'm not quite sure how the creator only selected some items in the custom properties to be displayed. There are approximately 15 elements in custom properties and 4 are displayed. I would like to change the items displayed at any given time, but still need to capture the information for the other elements. -- PAG "PAG" wrote: I am working in Visio 2003 and have a basic diagram with existing custom properties. Custom Properties
OK, let's try this.
Select the Text tool, and then click the object that you want to display the Custom Properties for. You'll get a single line text box. Press Enter as many times as you need to make room for all of the Custom Properties that you want to display. Right click in the text box and select Insert Field. In the Field dialog box, select Custom Properties, select the field, and choose a Format. Click OK. Move to the next line and repeat for each Custom Property that you want to display. When you are done, you will need to move the text box so that you can see it. Select the object (with the Select tool not the Text tool), right-click and select Show Shape Text. Next, drag the yellow diamond to where you want the text to appear. Once you get it positioned, you can select and format the text as desired. Hope this helps. Steve "PAG" wrote in message ... You can open a dialog that will display the custom properties of a shape and you can also add the custom properties to the text of a shape. So are you seeing this as part of the shape or in a seperate dialog? Within the Custom Property Dialog, you can make certain custom properties invsibile (hidden). Right click the custom property and choose Define custom property. There will be a hidden check box, you can also do this through the shapesheet. If it is within the shapes text, you will have to select the text and look at Insert Field to see what is being used. Each Visio shape can have only one text block, but a group shape can contain several shapes and thus text blocks can appear in various places in the shape. John... Visio MVP |
