Default Attachment: What's the difference between these two contacts?

In one of our user's distribution lists, it contains two kinds of contacts,
based on the icons in the attached picture. If the email address is changed
in the "new" type of contact, updating a distribution list will update the
contact information, but not for the "old" style.

Can anyone tell me how I can make all of the contacts consistent?
