READ BEFORE INSTALLING OFFICE 2007 B2TR
What you downloaded 2 weeks ago was the same thing you downloaded months
ago, namely Beta 2. This is an actual new build of Office 2007. In Microsoft's naming scheme, B2TR is essentially Beta 3 (or if you are anal, Beta 4, as there has been a B1, B1TR, B2 and now a B2TR). Patrick Schmid -------------- http://pschmid.net "Joacim" wrote in message : Thanks Patrick (I am enjoying your Ribbon add-in now all the time in 2007) even though I run 2003 /2007. I updated with a fresh download 2 weeks ago - Is this update newer? I thought Beta 3 was coming soon! "Patrick Schmid" wrote in message ... The B2TR patch has some nasty surprises for users in store. The most important one being that Word 2007 Beta 2 files saved in the new file formats (extensions docx, docm, etc) might not open at all once B2TR has been installed. Excel files in the file formats (extensions xlsx, xlsm, etc) saved in B2 should open in B2TR. PowerPoint files saved in B2 in the new file formats (extensions pptx, pptm, etc) seem to at least open, but seem to have issues with font size, text placement, and other minor issues. Before installing B2TR therefore, you should save all your files in the 97-2003 file formats. That means, save all your docx files as doc (Word), all your xslx files as xls (Excel) and all your pptx files as ppt (PowerPoint). There are a host of other issues you might encounter. I am keeping a running list that I will update constantly over the next few days at http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/09/14/43. I highly suggest to read it before installing B2TR. The MS Word team has told me that Word files in the new file formats
created in B2 (dotx, dotm, etc) *should* open in B2TR. I am blaming the corruption messages I received on files that were created in B1/B1TR. Apparently opening such files in B2, pressing save and closing them, did NOT upgrade them to the B2 format. Apparently not, however. Is the file format really different between B1/B1TR
and B2 or only the version? In Word 97-2003, if you open a Word 6.0/95 doc, you might be asked if you want to save in the current format, but if you open, say, a Word 97 file in Word 2003, you don't get any sort of prompt, since the file format is the same. -- Suzanne S.
