Default Saving File in Access 2007

I created a database and then wanted to add a field but got an error message:
You have exceeded the maximum number of columns allowed in a table or the
maximum number of locks for a single file. I only used about 30 columns.

Try doing a Compact and Repair. That may fix it.

How do I do that? Can't find it in any of the menus. This is my first
experience with Access 2007. I was able to add fields without difficulty in
the older version (98).

Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Manage, and then, under Manage
this database, click Compact and Repair Database.

That's from Help. I didn't know how to do it in A07 either!

If that doesn't help, I have a couple of other trick up my sleeve.
