Default why do tables lose formatting when saved and then re-opened?

I have been trying to update specifications for the company I work for, and
everytime I save a document, close it and re-open it, the tables are all
messed up. What am I missing?

Could you give a more detailed description of how they are "all messed up"?

Version of Word you are using?
Version of Word the company creating the table is using?
