My last post in this forum
Over the past 6 years I have posted 2696 times. I have answered a few
questions and asked a few myself. That’s it, it’s over. Best to jump before pushed. Microsoft has decided that “to improve the customer experience” they are going to close down this forum. Hmmmmm, nothing to do with cost then ? Oh well, I have found it to be true that it really is no use tilting at windmills. Not only has my English improved (I hope) by regularly typing away on this forum but also, by answering questions, I have also increased my knowledge due to having to find answer to problems that would never crop up in my DB’s as they are from different industries and professions. For both of these reasons I’d like the thank everyone past and present (sound like a wedding speak speech – I’d like to thank the bride’s mother for making the sandwiches….:-) MS does have other forums for other programmes so they “may” start another one up for Access users, if so, see you there. If not, “so long and thanks for all the fish”. Ci vediamo presto Wayne Manchester, England. |

Hi Wayne,
For some reason Microsoft Answers is blocked at work so I won't get there much. UtterAccess might be my place to be of help to others. Hope to run into you again. -- Jerry Whittle, Microsoft Access MVP Light. Strong. Cheap. Pick two. Keith Bontrager - Bicycle Builder. I have looked at MS Answers but it seems to be all jumbled together, V Strange.
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/.../en-US/addbuz/ But I think I'll end up there. Have also looked at UtterAccess, so you never know. Unlikely, but if you're ever over in the Italian Dolomites, drop in and say Hi, I'm in the bar at the bottom of the slopes 50m from the cable car most evening from 5pm to 7pm during the winter. http://www.folgarida.co.uk/pages/fol...ki_school.html I'm still lost for the reason they are shutting this down. Can't really how it's an improvement to just delete something. Can't be that hard for Bill to mirgrate it over to a forum if they have to shut the unernets -- Wayne Manchester, England. I've been wondering whether it's worth it myselfm but I can't just give up
because Microsoft decides to move in another direction. I'm partial to newsgroups mostly because they are much easier, and orders of magitude faster. On forums it will take much more than twice the time for me to do what I do here. So I may stay with posting on a newsgroup: comp.databases.ms-access on UseNET, or I may just have to be satisfied with posting less. From what I've seen in the Microsoft forums in the last few weeks, that traffic is going down as well. In any case Wayne, I hope to see you again, wherever we wind up. -- Arvin Meyer, MCP, MVP http://www.datastrat.com http://www.accessmvp.com http://www.mvps.org/access Co-author: "Access 2010 Solutions", published by Wiley "Wayne-I-M" wrote in message ... I started posting here perhaps in 1999, when these groups got far less
traffic than they do today. I can't identify my first question: I'm not sure what name I posted under, and DejaNews is long gone. I stuck around because the exercise of answering questions was educational for me, and the education was relevant to my job. And, back in the day, it was easy to find questions that had not already been answered. Favorite post I ever posted: http://groups.google.com.au/group/mi...180ef715?hl=en (it wasn't a good answer, but I did love it.) Favorite post I ever read: http://groups.google.com.au/group/mi...dd4a53fe?hl=en (ok, that's self indulgent, but hey...) The most important thing I ever learned here was how to script a complex build: http://groups.google.com.au/group/mi...569712af?hl=en but I don't know who I learned it from. Most memorable character at the time was MitchKa http://www.trigeminal.com/michka.asp (read the last paragraph of that page). 1999 was already well past the glory days of MSAccess: The Dev Ashish site http://www.mvps.org/access/ was already up with answers to all the important questions. Lebans went on to create answers to new questions as they came up. http://www.lebans.com/ . Many of the names you know and love still were already active then: some of them had come across from comp.databases.ms-access and Compuserve when MS closed it's Compuserve forums in 1996 and opened these groups (Arvin Meyer, Tony Toews, to name a couple) (david) "Wayne-I-M" wrote in message news High light of all posts I have read in this form Doug Scott's post about the USA http://groups.google.com/group/micro...g+americans%22 and being called a racist by some guy in France http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ublic.a ccess and then not :-) http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ublic.a ccess and of course Arron :-) -- Wayne Manchester, England. I guess I will have to stick to utteraccess if this group truly does close. Microsoft makes a few strange decisions indeed. |
