To many email accounts?
Hi,
I have a user using Outlook 2003 on an XP Pro box in a SBS 2003 Domain. We're using Exchange 2003 and we have a POP3 e-mail account as well. This one particular user has about 4 or 5 POP3 accounts along with the Exchange account, my question is, is there a limit as to how many e-mail accounts Outlook can support before it becomes unstable? He seems to always be having some kind of email issue and now when I click on the send/receive I'm getting an error saying to stop Outlook and restart it, well I've done that to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook as well. Thanks, |

To many email accounts?
Hello,
Thank you for posting here! According to your description, I understand this issue to be as follows: You encounter some issues when configuring 4 or 5 POP3 accounts along with the Exchange account in one Outlook 2003 profile. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know. Based on my knowledge, Outlook 2002/2003 makes great improvement in supporting multi-thread connections, which is different from previous version. We can perform send/receive operation for 5 POP3 accounts in one profile at the same time without problems. Only one exceptive scenario is that some ISPs limit the connection numbers. In this case, an error message or the OPMLog.log will appear to say that the connections exceed the limit. To enable the Outlook troubleshooting log, follow the steps below: (1) In Outlook, click Tools - Options - Other - Advanced Options. (2) Select to check the "Enable Logging (troubleshooting)" box, and then click OK. (3) Reproduce the issue and the log file will be generated at: C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\temp\OPMLOG.LOG For more detailed information, please refer to the following Knowledge Base article: 300479 How to enable transport logging in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300479 If you exactly encounter the symptom above, please contact your ISP for further assistance. Your understanding is appreciated! In the meantime, you can temporarily work around this issue by defining the Send/Receive groups as below: (1) On the "Tools" menu, point to "Send/Receive", point to "Send/Receive Settings", and then click "Define Send/Receive Groups". (2) Click "New". (3) Type a name for the custom group. (4) Click the account you want to include in this group, and then click to select the "Include the selected account in this group" check box. (5) Under "Select the options you want for the selected account" group, make sure that the "Send mail items" and the "Receive mail items" check boxes are selected, and then click "OK". (6) In the "Send/Receive Groups" dialog box, click your new group. (7) Under "Setting for group Group_name", click to select the option you want to schedule send/receive operation. (8) Click "Close". Next time you want to check email from this group, you can just click Tools - Send/Receive - Group_name. Only the email accounts in the new created group will be checked. For more information about how to set up Send/Receive groups, click "Microsoft Outlook Help" on the "Help" menu, type "send/receive groups" (without the quotation marks) in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click "Search" to view the topic. If the symptom you encounter is not similar to what I described above, the issue is most likely not related to the account limit in Outlook. Please perform the steps below to continue to troubleshoot this specific issue. Your time and patience are appreciated. 1. Please refer to the following Knowledge Base articles to create a new profile in Outlook. 829918 How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918 Note: Firstly, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to back up the Outlook data. 287070 OL2002: How to Back Up, Restore, or Move Outlook Data http://support.microsoft.com/?id=287070 Note: The article also applies to Outlook 2003. 2. Please test Outlook in the Safe Mode. The Safe Mode will disable all add-ins or extensions that will not start, or a corrupted resource, file, registry, or templates. Click Start--Run, type "Outlook /Safe" (Quotation marks are not included and there is a space between Outlook and /safe) and press Enter. 3. Please let me know the detailed symptom you encounter. Please also capture a screenshot of the exact error message, and then post here for further investigation. I hope the information above is useful. Have a nice day!
