Default Exporting to Excel file shows zeros for zipcodes

I use Outlook 2007 but have both Office 2007 and 2003 intalled in two
different directories on my computer (in case it makes a difference).

When I attempt to export contacts to an Excel file (with or without mapping
fields), the zipcodes show up as zeros.

Does it help if you change the format of the cells in the Zip Codes column in
Excel -- i.e. to Text instead of Number?

No, I tried it both ways - I formatted it in Excel as text, and as a number
prior to importing to Outlook.

Here is the full story on what I am doing. I am trying to learn more about
importing and exporting. I took and Excel file, imported it to Outlook, and
all was great (after I learned to map the zips to postal codes). However,
when I attempt to export that same data back to an Excel file, all of the
zipcodes come out as zeros. Once the data arrives back in Excel, formatting
will not change the zeros in Excel to anything other than zero. It's curious.

FYI, I can copy and paste, and all is great. I just can't export.

So are you opening the exported file in Excel 2007 or in Excel 2003? I am
not able to reproduce this issue between OL2007 and Excel 2007...did you
export directly to an Excel file or did you use a go-between like CSV?

I am having the same problem. When I do File/Export to a File, select MS
Excel at the File type, select a contact list that has addresses and zip
codes, and under Map Custom Fields, select "Home Postal Code" to map to a
field named "ZIP", the export appears to work. But when I open the exported
file in Excel, all Zip Codes have a zero. Note that if I export to a CSV
format, the zip codes ARE exported correctly.
