I don't know. I was very used to seeing the word File in the top left.
Why change it for some messy blob of coloured squares? Language is a
damned fine invention and does not need un-inventing. Likewise, why
replace the word Help with a small question mark in a circle? Too many
pointless changes.

And why does printing sheets of labels for Xmas have to be re-learnt
every year?! These things are meant to serve us, not the other way
round.

My suggestion to you is to download the beta version of the next Office
or any new Microsoft product and give Microsoft feedback. Without
feedback they won't have any idea what the public's likes and dislikes
are. Would you buy a brand new make and model car without test driving
or researching it first? Didn't think so... Now stop your crybaby
bitching and go back to Office 98!

floppy disk! Hey ho.

I just did.

But no one here works for Microsoft, and it's not a matter of disagreement.
It's common sense to not purchase something without researching it first.

I have been using MS Word since the DOS days, and had learned to trust MS to
improve Word with each new release. Many entries by MVPs in this group chide
us for not trying it first or to "not buy it." None of us expected MS to
destroy a great program. I am a power user that has written many macros for
Govt facilites and private industry and I can tell you that 2007 is
infuriating and counterproductive. I like the ability to make specialized
toolbars and to change the button images to reflect what the macros do. I
have tried this thing for several months and my contempt has grown with each
use. I will never trust MS again. I could get used to the ribbon but I will
never accept the lost of customizability (is that a word?)

If the OP spent TEN MINUTES looking for the "Save" icon which was staring

Then don't use it. You don't HAVE to use Word you know - there are several
perfectly good alternatives.

Obviously, you do not work with word in a professional capacity. In the
office of any major corporation, you use what they have. And if you work with
one thing at work you don't want to use another at home. Companies are
avoiding 2007 like the plague, because they can't afford the learning curve
and loss of customizability. We use our own toolbars and macros and 2007 is
not able to do what 2003 can in this area. It has regressed instead of
progressed in this area. I have worked for the Dept of Energy, DoD,
ExxonMobil, Texas Attorney General's office and many other companies as a
proffesional technical writer and programmer, and would not recommend this
piece of crap to anyone I work for or with.

Err no. Companies are avoiding Office 2007 because of COST.
One of the main reasons the ribbon was introduced is BECAUSE of corporate
needs.
Office 2003 is SO customisable that it has become a support NIGHTMARE. Ask
any Office support techie.
