Default Is there any truth in this?

And if so, what does it mean?

I know my Dell computer keeps wanting to send reports back "home" and I click NO.

I'm asking here because it mentioned Office 2007 in it. Oh, I have WINDOWS XP and have heard that VISTA isn't so good and has problems.

Is it Windows that wants to send messages home or Dell? Without knowing specifically what the message said, we can't help you.

As for Vista - I have it on three computers here at home and they are fine.

Carrie, why in the world would Microsoft want your personal data? Microsoft will
not shut down your computer. If you have a pirated OS and wanted an update, you
will not get it.

Stay away from these web sites. There are so many positive places to visit. I
understand the ACIM has something to do with the occult

As for Vista - I have it on three computers here at home and they are fine.

I was going by the report I read and reposted it said Office 2007 signs in to Microsoft (phones home) when it's used.

Giving the idea that anything one might write in these programs was being sent to some Microsoft database for some reason.

A lot of things try and send reports, Dell does when it says there's an update and sometimes if Internet Explorer says it has a problem or error message it wants to send a report to Microsoft. When I first got a computer someone (I thought knew (LOL) said never send in reports like that.

But, my main question was about Office 2007, if it really connects to Microsoft (when one is using it online, or maybe when one goes online AFTER using it) and sends data, info, etc to them?

Even though the report was about VISTA (and clearly against using Microsoft products and PCs) and I have XP, I also have Office 2007 now.

I have and have had Lexmark printers and they install files (cookies) that connect and/or report something to their home base, too. I have read about this and the company denies it's doing it, so no answers about WHAT (if anything) the printer is sending back.

I was just curious about Office 2007. Seems like when I've used Word, at one time anyway, my security settings would say "Word is trying to connect to the internet, do you want to do this?" I haven't seen it lately and used to check NO because I didn't know why it would need to, if I was writing something using the program.

Okay, I should have read this first (LOL)

I didn't think Microsoft would want personal info, but going by Bush
and phone taping, anti privacy, etc. who knows.

Actually, that website I read it on (but don't participate on) just
changed their whole system of streaming video/audio to quicktime and their
servers to MAC and people are having a hard time with it. The person who
does the tech for it (for his father, Paul Tuttle) - Chris Tuttle
supposedly works for Microsoft and has for years. They live in WA. I was
kind of following the PC/MAC problems and discussions now going on there.
Not sure why someone who works for Microsoft (and owns his own server, Point
of Perfection) would change everything to MAC (which is more expensive, too,
I think and that group exists on donations - well, I guess it's not their
money why would they care (LOL) And change over to Quick Time which people
are having major problems with. I don't listen or watch it, but was
interested in the computer stuff right now. I have Quick Time (but use
WMP) and tried their link and it worked fine for me.

ACIM (A Course in Miracles) has nothing to do with the occult. It has
to do with love, forgiving, finding Inner Peace, and the oneness of all.
It's supposedly for self-study and I don't think it translates well to
discussion groups and being talked about (argued over) but there are many
spinoff groups who have made something else from it (like the one having the
computer problems) that do seem to have become a sort of cult. I've never
seen anything in any of them that I'd call "occult" though. More like
arguing on groups who is right or wrong about it, who understands what it
really means, who is putting it in their lives correctly, etc. Of course, it
being a self-study book, the minute anyone tries to see it in someone else
and how they are living it, etc, it goes off track.

Maybe like the bible, people take it and make something else into it,
and it goes off in all different directions, changing it from what it (the
book(s) started out to be.

But, of course, going by the groups and their websites and discussion
boards, etc one just coming across it wouldn't know this. It's just a book
(set of 3 volumes) and can be found online as text files. It, in itself
isn't occult or a cult. But, once out in the world (and on the internet)
that sometimes changes.

My boss is convinced that Bill Gates is out to personally get him. I've
given up suggesting he learn to how to use the program properly. I just
agree that the big guy is out for him and then correct whatever the boss
messed up. ;-)
