Who worked with Visio 2003 and installed SP2?
Who worked with Visio 2003 and installed SP2 without having constantly
"updating directory cache" when starting Visio? (Usually Visio just do when starting the first time, not everytime). Please help - Microsoft support knows the error but has no solution that works....... Thanks in advance. I post the following message two weeks ago: When I run Visio 2003 for Enterprise architects, I get a dialog screen stating that Visio is updating its directory cache. This (for some reason) takes about 3 minutes - every time I run the program. You can not work anymore especially if you have to write a documentation and you see this message everytime when pasting a shape into word! The horror begins when I installed the SP2 for Visio. I tried a lot: please look here http://www.mcse.ms/message1008153.html like registry hacks, group policy etc. but nothing works! I noticed the following: When you Install a fresh visio (in my case Visio 2003 for Enterprise Architects) every thing is working fine. The annoying thing begins after installing a Service Pack (in my case SP2 for Visio). The Visio.bin (user/localsettings/ApplicationData/microsoft/visio) disappears in the moment Visio starts, and will be recreated when visio ends. Normally (on a fresh install of visio) the Visio.bin is just created once (when you start Visio the first time) and not touched by visio anymore. So there seems to be a change in the settings after applying the patch. When I uninstalled Visio and reinstall (without patch) the error is gone. (the Visio.bin doesnt dissapear anymore) I first met this problem in mid 2003 (with Visio 2002) - the same error with SP1 - after installing patch - everytimes update of the directory cache. Any other clues what I can do, or how can apply a Patch/SP without appearing of this annoying problem? I cant work anymore (if I install SP2 for Visio) please help! Kind Regards Patrick |

I had a similar problem where Visio got to 100% of updating the cache then
would stop. This turned out to be that the user default setting for their "My documents" setting, was set to a network drive which they didn't have write permission to. To get round the problem, I restore the default location of "My Documents", ran Visio which created the bin file, then reset the file location back to the network drive.
