Hi everyone. Currently, Outlook immediately deletes contacts, when I
click on the deletion icon or press the "delete" key on my keyboard. *** Question: Is there a way to make Outlook request a pop-up confirmation (yes/no/cancel) as a safety measure ? The current behaviour really is unsafe. *** (PS: Please don't suggest "verifying the deleted items" as solution, because it isn't one. Retrieving contacts from the deleted items helps, when you were *aware* of your deletion. But when you delete a contact item accidentally (and thus are *unaware* of the deletion), you are equally unaware of the fact that you would have to retrieve anything from the deleted items. And I can't check my deleted items on a regular basis either, because that would be too time-consuming. Please don't consider this as rude, but PLEASE, PLEASE don't talk about the "deleted items" folder in your response, because this strategy would not help me at all). You would need to use VBA - or just avoid the Del key.

Thank you for your reply.
You can't avoid doing something UNAWARE or ACCIDENTAL. (When you try to avoid it, you are - by definition - aware of it). Can you be more specific about VBA ? And is there no "deletion confirmation" checkbox anywhere in the Outlook options or any other way to configure Outlook to not silently delete contacts ?

the only confirm delete is when emptying the deleted items folder. See

Sad, that there is no way to change this unsafe behaviour of Outlook.
But thank you for support, Diane. Would it be quick for you to specifically explain (posting code maybe) how to add a deletion confirmation, using VBA ? Or would this be a lot of work ? (I have no clue about that ...) The item you delete gets put into Deleted Items and will remain there until you DO realize you've deleted it, which is a premise to your entire scenario. I think this is particularly ridiculous from Microsoft that there's no
option to turn on "delete confirmation" for every time an item is deleted (one would have though this would be a DEFAULT!). Our company has Microsoft Exhange set up with low limits on each indiviudual's mailbox size. This means I have to "permanently erase my deleted items" folder at least once a day. In other words, "simply getting the message out of the deleted items folder is not available to me when I realise something is missing. All it takes is for you to accidentally hit the delete key (or even have something fall on it) and it would be gone for good (if I didn't realise in a couple of hours). This has happened to me on a few occasions over the past three years, and is very annoying! Rob
