Quick selection of a record from a drop-diwn list
Is there a quick way of selecting a record from a drop-down list without
having to scroll? I usually work with drop-downs with about 5000 records and scrolling is not a very efficient way of finding/selecting the record I want. I thought typing the first letter of the record while the drop-down is open would work, but it doesn't. Please help. Thanks! |

Quick selection of a record from a drop-diwn list
Thanks Micky!
I'm actually a user in a share point site, so these will be handy for those actually setting-up the tables. I will forward to them and hope they could apply. Otherwise, I'm stuck with scrolling. Thanks anyway! "מיכאל (מיקי) אבידן" wrote: The following link might also become handy: http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/autocomplete-validation.htm Micky |

Quick selection of a record from a drop-diwn list
This may be of some help.
Sort your list A to Z. Now at the beginning of the A series enter an A, same for the B series, and for all the rest of the list to Z. Click on the data validation cell and enter a letter that suits your anticipated choice. Lets say your choice will begin with an S. Enter the S and DO NOT hit enter. Now click the arrow and you will be at the top of the S list. Some scrolling will be necessary, but much less. You CAN hit enter after entering the S but then you will have to re-select the DV cell again and then click the arrow to get to the top of the S list, it just saves a step and that seems to be in flow with what you want for a quicker selection from the list. Quick selection of a record from a drop-diwn list
Hi
i have written some code to automatically insert those letters for you. It can be found at http://www.contextures.com/DataValHeadings.zip Also, you might care to check out my FastFilter method, which allows you to type a few characters in a cell above your table, and have that table automatically filtered. http://www.contextures.com/Fastfilter.zip -- Regards Roger Govier L.
