Default Can't find location for my global template in Word 2003

Hi,
using Word2003 and Windows XP, and not particularly friendly with either, I have a problem with making my own global template to load automatically when opening Word. If I have understood correctly I should copy my template into the Startup folder, which is to be found under Doc..settings\myname\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup. Problem is that I can't find this location anywhere, after myname there is no Application Data-folder and nowhere else either. Also, for making changes in this template I am supposed to go to File, Open with "document templates" marked in the Files of Type box, but the files shown are the same as in "all Word-documents" and there is no template-file. Can somebody explain this? I would be most grateful - this (among other things) drives me crazy.

In Word look at:
Tools Options File Locations

If there is not a startup location set, create one. If there is, you have
found it.

For more on the different kinds of templates and locations of templates
folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

By default Windows hides a lot of folders. This folder tree is one of them.

From Windows Explorer - you'll find that in Windows Start All Programs
Accessories (I think). Right click the command and drag it either to the
desktop or the Quick Launch toolbar at the bottom of the screen (as it is
one of the most useful tools on your PC). When you release the mouse button
select 'Copy'.

Start Windows Explorer and from its tools menu, select Folder Options View
and check 'Show Hidden Files & Folders'.
While you are about it, uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'. This
will prevent surprises in the future.

You should now be able to find the startup folder.
