Default grey line through notes section?

Hi All -

I'm in encountering this weird problem. When I go into Notes Page view, in the Notes text box there is a light grey line that goes diagonally from the top left hand corner to the bottm right hand corner of the notes box only. This is happning on all the pages Now, When I view the Master Notes Page there in no grey line. I can't delete it. Does anyone have an idea of what's causing this? Howcan I fix this? As Always, any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

M.

Could you send just one of the slides? I would be happy to look at it. My
email is sonia @ soniacoleman dot com.

Is this only happening with one presentation? What version of PowerPoint are
you using? Can you add notes in the Notes Pane?

Default grey line through notes section?

Thanks for sending me the slide, Marianne. I can't tell you how it got there,
but I can tell you how to get rid of it as just a test. Go to View Notes Page
and then to Format Notes Layout and check the box that says "Reapply Master".

The line is strange. If I select the Placeholder (in Notes Page View) and then
go to Format Autoshape (I shouldn't be able to choose Autoshape - - it should
say Placeholder), there is a light gray-blue color setting applied to Line
Color. If I set it to no line, it goes away, or rather it becomes invisible.
Somehow the Placeholder is not being recognized as a Placeholder. I don't know
what the history is for this presentation, but something is wonky and I
suspect that something has become corrupted.

I recommend the following if you are using PowerPoint 2002 or 2003:

Open PowerPoint, go to File New, go to Insert Slides from File and locate
your presentation, select all of the slides and check the box that says "Keep
Source Formatting". Then save the presentation to a new name. That will clean
out the problem.

If you are using an earlier version of PowerPoint you can do the same as above,
but you'll have to reapply your template after inserting the slides.

This is a case where we could have guessed at what the problem was until the
cows come home and we probably never would have been able to give you any useful
help. Thanks for letting me get my hands on the slide so that I could actually
see it.

I forgot to mention why I think you should start with a new file and import the
slides. It's possible that the line is totally harmless and you could just
reapply the Notes Page layout and never have a problem. On the other hand, if
the presentation is starting to get corrupted, now is the time to clean it out.
I would also recommend using the free Sequential Save add-in
(http://www.mvps.org/skp/seqsave.htm), which always creates a backup when you do
a File Save. Then you'll always be able to revert to a previous version if
something happens to your current version.

Hi Sonia -

So far this has happened to only one of my presentations. I'm on windows 2000 and using the PP 2000. In the notes pane, I can add notes, butin notes page view I can't. Thanks again for your help! Marianne

(Sonia has me intrigued, so I'm messing around with the notes too.)

Question for you Marianne: Has this presentation been touched by anyone
other than you (I'm guessing yes)? And were they on the same set up as you
were, or were they on a different set up?

Hi Kathy -

Well, actually, I did the presentation here at work and then did some on my boyfriends computer...We are on windows 2000, pp 2000 and he has millenium with pp 2002... hmmm maybe this going back and forth caused the problem.. didn't even dawn on me, when I was doing it that different environments could possible cause a problem.
