Default Table column formatting

In Word 97 I could move columns around to suit my needs, in Word XP every
tme I move one column the others resize. Is there a switch to turn off this
(un)helpful facility?

There are a couple of issues he

1. Auto resizing. Turn this off at Table Properties | Table | Options.

2. How columns are sized. If you're actually moving columns (swapping their
locations), probably turning auto resizing off will take care of the
problem. When you're sizing columns, there are various ways to drag the
column boundaries for different effects; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/TableBasics.htm. For more control over
row and column formatting, you can revert to the old Table | Cell Height and
Width dialog; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFm...ePropProbs.htm
