Default caption display in table of figures

Hello. I am adding automatic captions to my figures with additional text. When I insert the Table of Figures, word is including all the text that I have written next to the caption label. I would like the Table of Figures to include the figure number and title (i.e., Figure 1.1 mechanical heart valves) but not the additional text. I have tried to select the text that I don't want to appear in the TOF and call it "body text", but it still shows up in the TOF. Do you have a suggestion?

Thanks!

Word generates the TOC, TOF, TOA based on specifig styles. For the TOF the
style is Caption.
So, you maybe are adding the text just after your titles, let's say:
Figure 1: mechanical heart valves. The Mechanical heart valves are....
You need to:
First, separate the Captions from the other text. Just hit Enter and start
in a new line. The style should change to Normal.
Second, since the TOF is a Static Field, you will need to update it
everytime you have made changes to the tables, figures... Labels, position
and etc. Just plase the cursor in the TOF, and hit F9. Choose Update entire
table. That will refresh the filed and it will show the new information.

You're right. That worked. I was hoping to continue the caption on the same line as the title, but this will work.

If you format the paragraph mark between the two paragraphs as hidden,
they will print on the same line, assuming that "Hidden text" is
cleared on the Print tab of Tools Options.

In order to see and format the paragraph mark, you would probably want
to display it first. You can use the ¶ button on the Standard toolbar
for this purpose. For more information about paragraph marks and other
nonprinting characters, see:
