Default Using Styles to align numbers in a cell--a real challenge!

I work a lot with stats that are shown in table format and would like all the numbers to right align (like a decimal tab). That I can do on a cell-by-cell basis. However, I want them to right align in the CENTRE of each column. I cannot format each column in each table to be the same width because the descriptive column labels vary greatly column to column and table to table.

Is there anyway to format a style so that the numbers are right aligned AND the whole colunm of numbers is centred (not the numbers being centred as then the last units (ones) do not line up)?

e.g., approximation of desired outcome:

| 7 | 29 |
| 42 | 7256 |
| 116 | 8 |

Hopefully this makes sense!

thx a mint for your help (=

Unfortunately, the tab settings in styles work from the left indent, not the
column width. You could set up different styles (all based on one) with
different tab settings for the different columns.

Leave the numbers left-aligned. Select the column and, using the ruler, set
a decimal tab where you want the numbers aligned. The numbers will snap to
the tab.

Suzanne, I picked up your hint on another thread before posting mine. I tried to it out immediately and it was interesting to see it done that way. Thx for that again.

Charles, thx for taking the time to let me know it can't be done...trying to find a solution was driving me crazy.

Thx a mint to both of you at least now I know to stop trying!
