Default How do I get Word to delete text using the backspace key?

Well, your question was *not* identical to the original post and should have
been posted in a new thread. These are two separate issues: being unable to
delete text using the Delete key
(http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...DeleteText.htm) and being
unable to delete using Backspace or to replace text by typing over it. If
you had posted a new question instead of a "me, too," you would have gotten
the correct answer.

Hi Suzanne. I tried the steps outlined above, but they didn't pertain to

me
because Word is working perfectly except for this one area. I did find

the
solution though. Go to Tools, select Options, select the General Tab. I
unchecked the "Help for Word Perfect Users" box, and selected the
"Automatically create canvas when inserting autoshapes" box. In addition

to
being unable to select and delete text, I was having a problem deleting
images. The above steps took care of both problems. Thanks! LGH

The answer is farther up in this thread: On the Edit tab of Tools |

Options,
check the box for "Typing replaces selection." Backspacing is considered
"typing."

Bob, did you ever get a response to your question? Mine just started

acting
up today. It worked fine last week.

I used to be able to select text tehn either hit teh backspace key

or
just
type new text and delete teh selected part, now Word won't do that

and
I'm
not sure how I got it that way. HGow do I reset it so that it will

work the
way it used to?
