Finding a place to get an answer to my question has been a train wreck. I've
been trying for 3 days. I hope someone can help me. Either space aliens have invaded my computer or I have a mega virus none of my "guards" can find. For some reason, the menu bar at the top of the Word page has disappeared. This line usually is just above the tool bars ( which also have vanished). The selections usually are File, View, Insert, etc. How can I retrieve this menu bar? I already have checked and tried all 4 "view" options at the bottom of the screen. The status bar at the bottom also is visible, as are my rulers. I have several major projects in process and this is slowing down tremendously. For example, how to you create a table using just the keyboard, since you don't have your command icons visible? Please help! -- Carolyn |

Try pressing Alt plus v to get the view drop down and see if you can
deselect 'Full Screen'. You might try shutting down Word, go to 'Start Run', type winword /a and pressing Enter. If that doesn't remedy the problem, you may have to use regedit to locate and delete some corrupt registry keys. For your table question, try holding down the Alt key and pressing the letter 'a'. The alt-v didn't work, nor did the start run winword / a. I don't know
how to do the regedit thing you mentioned. Could you walk me through that? If all else fails, I do have the documents saved to a flash drive and have Word on my laptop. I just hate using that, because sometimes with these projects, I need the Internet and have trouble accessing it from the laptop; it doesn't always connect. That's my next project. Thanks, Steve. -- Carolyn "Steve Yandl" wrote: Try pressing Alt plus v to get the view drop down and see if you can deselect 'Full Screen'. Well, my first go around with Regedit didn't work, but I'll try again
tomorrow. I was nervous about deleting, so renamed. That didn't work, so tomorrow I may just bite the bullet and delete and see what happens. If I really screw things up, I'll get in touch with the Geek Squad and see if they can fix it for me. In the mean time, I think I'll see if I can do what I need to do with my laptop, just so I can get at least part of this finished. But thanks so much for your time and patience. -- Carolyn "Steve Yandl" wrote: Carolyn, Follow the instructions for whatever version of Word you have available on this page: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm Steve "Carolyn in Texas" wrote in message ... Did you try typing Alt+v, then t, and then c? This should bring up the
Customize dialog box. Click the Toolbars tab and make sure Menu bar, Standard and Formatting are all checked. I just tried that but no Customize dialog box came up. I'm going to try the
delete process next. If that doesn't work it's, hello Geek Squad?? But thanks for your help. It seems none of the Alt+ keys that have been suggested by other responders work. So there definitely is something wrong. Thanks again. -- Carolyn "Guy Lydig" wrote: Did you try typing Alt+v, then t, and then c? This should bring up the Customize dialog box. If I delete the Data file, that deletes the Default, Settings and Toolbars,
correct. But by saving it, as recommended, I could restore everything and then perhaps just delete the Settings and Toolbars, right? -- Carolyn "Graham Mayor" wrote: See http://www.gmayor.com/my_toolbars_are_missing.htm which may give you a bit more confidence to approach the task? -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Carolyn in Texas wrote: Well, my first go around with Regedit didn't work, but I'll try again tomorrow. Sure, if you export the key first you can double-click the saved exported
file and merge the deleted information back into your Registry. Do note, that the entire Word branch of the Registry is self-healing which means it will recreate anything that is missing the next time you start Word. Now, if you delete the entire Office branch the Windows Installer will likely appear and repair your installation but that's part of the self-healing process. So while there are some areas you need to be *very* careful in the Registry, the Word branch isn't one of those areas. :-) If you want to play it safe, just delete the Toolbars value instead of the entire Data key since that's actually where the corruption lies. Btw, if you were to call Geek Squad I suspect one of two things would happen, 1) they wouldn't know how to fix it or 2) they'd use one of the articles that have been previously cited to correct the issue. ;-) Save your money, take a deep breath and go for it!
