Cut and Paste
Hi all. How can I cut and paste a formula that retains the same formula. Every time I do it the cell references change. While this is a nice feature in some cases, it is causing me grief too.
Thanks, Chris |

Cut and Paste
Hi Cris
You must change for example =A1+B1 to =$A$1+$B$1 If you edit the formula in the formula bar or in a cell you can press the F4 key to let excel do the work for you. -- Regards Ron de Bruin http://www.rondebruin.nl "Chris from Waterworks" wrote in message ... Cut and Paste
Hi Chris,
If you want the formula EXACTLY as it is without converting any part of it to absolute references as explained earlier you can cut and paste from the formula bar. Another method was suggested by Chip Pearson using two of his macros and installed as right-click or context menus. See Right Click Menus (Context Menus) in Excel http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/rightclick.htm As you might surmise looking at the references at the bottom of that page, I love Context menus, and you can get a better idea of what context menus really are, and how they change depending on where you are when you right click on a web page by looking at the the links for Internet Explorer context menus or specifically http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/rightie6.htm In Excel most RightClick event menus are used per worksheet. If you want to convert your formulas so that some part of the addresses in the formula change to Row absolute or Column absolute you can use application.ConverFormula as mentioned in the article that Frank referred to on Chip's site (relative.htm) to make it easier to use the fill handle. Working With Absolute And Relative References http://www.cpearson.com/excel/relative.htm Fill-Handle, Replication and use of the Mouse http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/fillhand.htm Inserting $ at every cell mentioned in a formula http://google.com/groups?threadm=en7...GP12.phx.g bl --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "Frank Kabel" wrote in message ...
