What has changed? Have you installed a new version of PowerPoint? What
version? Are you selecting an object and then going to Slide Show Custom
Animation? What happens then that is different?

The relevant part of the tinyurl link is below. That's the next thing I'd
try. But you will probably need to make some modifications to that exact
regedit sequence. If Start/Run Regedt32 doesn't work, try Start/Run and
type
regedit (I'm not sure which works with Win2000, you see). Also, I believe
the version of Office you're looking for will be 10.0.
Can't guarantee that this will work, but it's worth a try. Be sure to back
up the registry before trying this!

Click Start, Run, Regedt32, OK
Allow full control to users of the following keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0

Security - Permissions - check "Allow inheritable permissions" - Allow
fullcontrol to all users.

Which version of PPT, and what happens when you try to add animation?

Also, which web page are you accessing this newsgroup from? Maybe I can
point you to the Help files if I know what you're looking at...

PP 2003 in Windows XL, which was purchased and installed at that time. I am
accessing this newsgroup through msn.com at this time. I started out in
Microsoft help. Nothing happens when I try to access animation. The customize
and side part are not lit up, they remain gray and dull, and inaccessable.

Absolutely nothing has changed that I am aware of. No, I have not installed a
newer version of PowerPoint. I have PP 2003 that I have used for months and
was able to have animation with my slides. When I go to slide show, then
custom animation is dull and unable to access. Could I have somehow changed
my settings in my tools that would change this? I am able to make my slides
transition with timing. I always was able to just click on animation to the
right hand side next to the slides; where it says new slides, and then there
is an area to click on animation. This entire area where it tells you the
kinds of animation; such as slide, fold, dissolve, all are grey and unlit,
nothing happens when I try to access them. I can't access them or the custom
slide show

Please look under Tools/Options/Edit. Make sure there is no checkmark in the
"new animation effects" option at the bottom of that dialog.

Also, when I check the original thread, it seems that this suggestion from
Kathy Jacobs resolved the problem for the person who was posting at that
time. http://tinyurl.com/694wx Basically, Kathy had the user put a check
beside "new animation effects," close PPT, reopen PPT and deselect the "new
animation effects" option. That would definitely be worth a try here.

Thanks for the information.

I've responded to the PPT part of the question elsewhere in the thread.

As for the newsgroup/new post part of the question, I'll just suggest that
it may be easiest for you to put this page for the PowerPoint newsgroup--
http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...g=microsoft.pu
blic.powerpoint&lang=en&cr=US
-- in your favorites. I'm not sure which page you're coming in from since
you got here from Help in PPT, although for all I know this could be the
page you're seeing now!

When you come to this page, you should see the word "new" with a
downward-pointing arrow. It's right at the top of the list of posts. Just
click on New and then click on Question. You may have to log into
Passport/sign into Communities if you haven't already, and then you should
see the New Question post window. You'll have to allow popups on this
page/site in order for the new question window to open, though.

Here's a step-by-step from the Help file:
Post a new question
1.. Open the discussion group in which you want to post.
2.. Click New , and then click Question.
3.. Enter a brief, meaningful summary in the Subject box so others in the
Community get an idea of your question.
4.. Enter a good description of your question or issue and include the
version of the product you are using in the Body box.
5.. If you want to receive e-mail notification when someone replies to
your question, select the Notify me of replies check box.
6.. Review the text you typed in the Subject and Body boxes to make sure
it says what you want; you cannot revise your message after you click Post.
7.. Click Post.
In case your current interface looks different and you want to use this page
and interface, this specific thread is located at http://tinyurl.com/694wx
(started on January 8, so it's quite a few pages in). You should be able to
just hit the "reply" button to reply to this thread. That's probably the
best thing to do rather than starting a new thread at this point.

Thank-you for all of your help. I will check back with you tomorrow and let
you know how things turn out. Interestly enough I tried to use the Microsoft
lesson on animation. I started out fine in the beginning of the test, but
when it came time to actually try to take the test; it would not allow me to
access it. I tried to click with my mouse on every line listed there about
different tips, etc, and nothing happened, so I simply closed the page.I
should not be having difficulty with PP 2003 or Windows XL; I only purchased
Windows XL less than one year ago. Tomorow I will have to try to access some
of the other tutorials on the Microsoft program to see if I have any
difficulty accessing them as well.
