Default inbox.dbx replaced with inbox (1).dbx ???

reading contents of my inbox when OE had a problem.

Restart OE and all of my inbox items are gone.

Do a find for inbox*.* and I find two entries

inbox.dbx which looks right based on size, date, time etc.

inbox (1).dbx which looks new.

Right click on the inbox folder in OE and choose properties - OE now
points to the inbox (1).dbx file.

I rename inbox (1).dbx to inbox (1).dbx.sav

then rename inbox.dbx to inbox (1).dbx

Now my inbox contents are back to the way they were.

Assuming the OE did this rename for a reason - where is there some sort
of error log to give me a clue ?

The inbox properties screen has a Apply button - which led me to believe
that I could specify a new location for the inbox (in this case revert
back to the original) but try as I might I could not get the screen to
accept any changes. I am logged onto Windows XP Home as an administrator.

Thanks in advance for any help. Bob

Bob

Your older inbox is corrupted. In Tools, Options, Maintenance uncheck
the box before as it is the common cause of folder corruptions with
older versions of Outlook Express.

Thanks. I recall reading that in insideoe.tomsterdam.com. But doesn't
that deal with newgroups only ? Going to re-read now.

Again thanks for the help !
