Default Disappearing Subforms

I am getting a little frustrated with a problem of disappearing subforms.
When I open a form with subforms, I get the following error message:

This expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated.
For example, a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements.
Try simplifying the expression by assigning parts of the expression to
variables. (Error 3071)

After I click the OK, (the same amount of times as I have subforms,) I end
up with empty spaces where my subforms used to be. They used to work. Two
days ago when this started happening, I tried all I knew to do. Verified my
relationships, my Source Object and linking fields. Everything is correct.
To add to the confusion, after I would reclick the Source Object in the drop
menu and save it and then return to the form, like magic it is back. It will
not disappear for the rest of the day, but then yesterday, same thing. I
went through everything again yesterday, and had all the subforms working all
day, in and out of the forms, exiting and restarting the DB. Today, same
scenario. Any magicians out there who can help? (Access 97) Thanks!
This is a repost. I am finding that I can retrieve the subforms by closing
and reopening the form. I cannot introduce this DB in this condition. Any
ideas?????
