Default summing based on auto filter

I have a spreadsheet with several hundred rows and many
columns.

The formula in column "C" sums values for all columns
from "D" through the last column for its respective row,
e.g., column BG.
Column "A" has different criteria that I use to Auto
Filter.

The result of this auto filter will produce a different
number of rows displayed.
Sometimes 2, sometimes 10, sometimes 50, etc.
The number of rows and columns are added to daily.

Is there a way to sum the values in column "C" based on
the auto filter?
That is, if the auto filter results in 2 rows displayed,
sum those 2 values for in Column "C".
If the auto filter results in 10 rows displayed, sum
those 10 values for in Column "C".
If the auto filter results in 20 rows displayed, sum
those 20 values for in Column "C".
Etc.

I am using Excel 97.

Try:

=SUBTOTAL(9,C:C)
