Can't see task pane design template
When i look in the task pane - design templates
I cannot see the templates. they are there but they are invisible! I saw that someone recommended in the past to lower the hardware acceleration of the video card, but that did not work. any suggestions? Thanks |

I am having the same problem. the contents of the Slide Design and Slide
Layout contents of the Task Pane are invisible. I can use them by clicking on the blanks, but I cannot see them in the task pane. Have you had any luck finding a solution? Can't see task pane design template
Hi, Timothy.
This is a thorny issue we've been trying to track down, but so far, we haven't had any luck. Part of the reason is because so few posters come back with specidic system information, so we haven't been able to try very many things to troubleshoot. I know I'd love to get some info for you and suggest some things you can try. Are you game? -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com "Timothy" wrote in message ... Hello Echo,
Yes, I'm game. The symptoms are sporadic. Most of the time I cannot see anything in the Design and Layout Panes. MS Office Powerpoint 2003 (11.6564.6568) SP 2 Windows XP Tablet Edition Service Pack 2 Automatic Updates are enabled Toshina M205 Tablet PC I connect it to multiple networks both wired and wireless Logging on as Admin doesn't effect the problem Enabling and disabling virus-scanning doesn't effect symptoms (AVG Free) I do not have any Powerpoint plugins installed. I have downloaded some templates from Microsoft. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Timothy "Echo S" wrote: Hi, Timothy. Caught a live one! :-) (Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this thread. It's been a little nuts this afternoon.) MS Office Powerpoint 2003 (11.6564.6568) SP 2 Windows XP Tablet Edition Service Pack 2 Automatic Updates are enabled Toshina M205 Tablet PC I connect it to multiple networks both wired and wireless Logging on as Admin doesn't effect the problem When you logged on as admin, did you reboot, or did you just switch users? If you haven't yet, you might see if rebooting takes care of it. If it does, we may be looking at a simple resources issue. Enabling and disabling virus-scanning doesn't effect symptoms (AVG Free) I do not have any Powerpoint plugins installed. I have downloaded some templates from Microsoft. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you for such thorough information, Timothy. I think you found one of my past posts with all kinds of questions like this -- I was going to ask about your virus program and add-ins, so you're way ahead of me there. You might want to make sure your graphics/video card drivers are up to date, and you might try changing hardware acceleration. I don't think that will resolve the issue, but both are worth trying. (http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm has instrux for hardware acceleration.) Can you boot a Tablet PC into Safe Mode? If so, please try that. Things will be ugly, but you should be able to tell if you can see the thumbnails or not. Also, try doing some basic disk maintenance -- delete the files in the Temporary Internet Files folder, search for and delete all *.tmp files, and run a defrag. And you know, one user reported that running Detect and Repair fixed this problem for a little while on her system, so try Help|Detect and Repair. Sure won't hurt! If Detect and Repair resolves it, but if the problem comes back after you reboot, that could indicate that something loading at startup is conflicting with PPT and causing this issue. So (I don't know if you can do this on a Tablet, but I think you can), go to Start|Run and type in msconfig Disable all startup items and reboot again. That way we can see if something starting on boot/running in the background is causing the issue. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com |

Timothy,
You should be able to boot your tablet in Safe Mode, but you will need your keyboard to do it. Once it is in Safe Mode, you will (probably) not be able to use handwriting to do things. Normally, I would ask if you have the memory leak fix for the tablets installed, but if you have auto-updates, you should have it. Might not be a bad thing to check by going to the update site and checking manually. (By the way Echo, if it turns out to be related to the memory leak fix, then it IS a resources problem.) Because you are on a tablet, I have one question beyond Echo's: Does docking your tablet make any difference? (I can't remember if this one is always docked or if it is removable from the dock.) -- Kathryn Jacobs, Microsoft MVP PowerPoint and OneNote Author of Kathy Jacobs on PowerPoint - Available now from Holy Macro! Timothy, is there any chance I can get a screenshot of your screen(s) with
the missing design and layout thumbnails? Also, I'd like to confirm that this happens with all presentations, not just a particular one. If it's just a particular one, can I get a copy of that presentation?
