Default Address Book Customizable??

Is the constuction of the GAL window in Outlook
determined by Outlook and/or Exchange/AD? I understand
the actual information comes from AD but what determines
what columns are displayed? Ultimately I would like to
know if an additional column of information (mobile phone
#) can be added to the window and how to do it. I know
about detail templates but I am trying to update the
actual GAL summary window column structure.

I have spent more than a few hours researching this on
web sites with no luck. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!
