Default Outlook problem

I imported a list of contacts from an Excel file into
Outlook using CSV. Although the transfer was a success
and the contacts appear to be correctly configured when
viewed individually, when I attempt to set up a
distribution list double clicking on the contact I wish
to add results in only putting a period or semicolin in
the "add to distribution list". Sometimes I get a fax
number instead of the email address.

Selecting the properties for a contact shows the email
address to be set up correctly.

This also occurs when I try to add addresses by pressing
the address book icon and selecting names from my
contacts.

I have rebooted to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated.
