Default Bug? Outlook 2003 can't handle LDAP, but Outlook Express 6 could??

Hello everyone; I have an annoying problem- I just upgraded to Outlook 2003,
and configured my company's LDAP server just as I did for Outlook Express 6.
When I create a new mail message, and click on "To", the "Select Names"
dialog box appears. Then I type a last name into the "Type Name or Select
from List" textbox. When I choose my company's LDAP directory from the drop
down, I get the message "Unable to display results because too many entries
in the Internet Directory match your search criteria."

Once this error occurs, I can then click on Advanced-Find and type in a
last name. Then, when I click on OK (in Advanced/Find), the results from my
company's LDAP server appear.

It seems to me that Outlook 2003 is trying to load the ENTIRE ldap server in
at once just to display all the names! I don't want the names to be
displayed, I want to be able to do a search first. Is there a way to
configure this? Or is this a bug?

I searched the 'net, but most of what I found was dealing with Outlook 2k or
XP- nothing with Outlook 2003.

Thanks,

-Thomas
