I followed your instructions and I cannot open the attachment.
I greceived the following message: The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Option Control Panel. What else I can do? Please advise. Thank you. "Michael Koerner" wrote: You may need to download and install the PowerPoint viewer to view the .pps file. you can download it form here. Save the file from your email. Then open the Viewer program and from within it
open the presentation (File Open and browse to the file on your hard disk). -- Sonia Coleman Microsoft PowerPoint MVP Team Autorun Software, Templates and Tutorials "rocasan1" wrote in message ... [CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the Critical
Update or Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help - Check for Updates".] [TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint that you just created (you can save, but not open)? - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820] Hello, You might be experiencing a known problem with PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on Windows XP SP-2 (Service Pack 2). Testing has come up with the following workaround. 1) Install PowerPoint Viewer 97 to the same folder as PowerPoint Viewer 2003. 2) Rename the respective executables for the two viewers as follows: 2a) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 97 executable to something other than "pptview.exe" or "ppview32.exe" 2b) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 2003 executable "ppview32.exe" This will "trick" Outlook Express into using PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (instead of PowerPoint Viewer 97) to open attachments. Hello John,
This question concerns your reply 2a. Do I have to rename the file with an ".exe" (ie: "abc123.exe") or just "abc123"? Thanks for your time. John can answer this more definitively, but I'm not sure that he monitors
this group all the time. I don't think it really matters what you rename the file. Since it is an executable, it makes sense to end with .exe, but the renaming is just a trick to get the file out of the way so the new ppview32.exe (from step 2b) will automatically run in place of the old one. --David -- David M. Actually, things have changed since John posted this. Shyam Pillai has written
a tiny program that will fix things for you permanently and allows you to use the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer.
