Upgrading to Publisher 2007, while in Office 2003 SP2
JoAnn,
Got it! Thanks. "JoAnn Paules" wrote in message ... It's not fully compatible. I'm not saying that it won't work - it will to varying degrees. If what JoAnn says is true, then perhaps you should look for an alternative
to Winfax. Or since you have the ability to cloan your old setup, try installing just Pub 2007 with a custom install, and test it. I don't have Outlook 2003 installed, and would be curious about your results. I can't imagine why MSFT would strip away the email as a message function from Outlook 2003 if you upgrade to Pub 2007, while OE still works, but... DavidF "Jeff Hendrick" Jeff wrote in message ... Symantec has divested itself from WinFax Pro, so that is not an option. MS

Yes, I am saying that you need matched versions if you want to use the Send
to feature to include the Publisher document in the body. As an attachment is a different story. I just checked on my old computer. It has Pub 2007 and Outlook Express (Outlook as well but not the default program). I cannot send a Pub 2007 file in the body of an email on that computer. The option does not even exist. On this computer I can do that with Pub 2003 or 2007 with Outlook. I have Windows Mail but it's not the default program. Since it's the latest version there is no version of Publisher newer than it to test it out. From http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/pu...743381033.aspx Pub 2003 (near the bottom) "To send a single page as an e-mail message or to preview it before sending, you must have Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Outlook Express (version 5.x or 6.0) installed on your computer. " Please not that it doesn't mention previous versions of Outlook. -- JoAnn Paules Microsoft MVP - Publisher How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 "DavidF" wrote in message ... Surely that can't be true? I don't use Outlook, but didn't Pub 2003 require Outlook 2002 or newer (and OE5 or newer)? Are you saying that if I were to upgrade Pub 2003 by buying and installing Pub 2007 only, and use Outlook 2003 as my default email client, that I would loose the ability to email a Publisher email publication as a message using Outlook 2003...or even Outlook 2002? Is this perhaps just the case for the new email merge function that is available with Pub 2007, rather than just sending one message? Surely MSFT would not hobble Pub 2007 like that...tell me it ain't so... What about using the new email client that comes with Vista and replaced OE? Does that work? DavidF "JoAnn Paules" wrote in message ... Same version of Outlook or newer, not older. Outlook Express is a different critter. In this case, it's actually a more flexible tool. -- JoAnn Paules Microsoft MVP - Publisher How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 "DavidF" wrote in message ... I don't understand JoAnn's response. I can email a Publisher 2007 document as a message in OE6, so I see no reason why you should not be able to use Pub 2007 with Outlook 2003 as you did with Pub 2003. I have read that while you can generally run multiple versions of Office on the same computer, you cannot run multiple versions of Outlook. You might try a custom install of Office 2007 without Outlook 2007, although Symantic has never played well with Office, and you might get other conflicts. Thanks. I do know that you can send as a message using OE6 from both Pub
2003 and 2007...been there and done that. And if you follow the link that Mary provided it also says that you can. As per not being able to send as a message using Outlook 2003 from Pub 2007, that's a shame. DavidF "JoAnn Paules" wrote in message ...
