Default Default Paper Size

Being in the UK, standard sized paper is A4. Can anyone tell me how to set
Publisher to open in A4. At present it opens in Letter size which means I
have to go to Page Setup and change it every time I want to create a
document.

I have reset both Publisher and Printer but both revert as soon as I close.

TIA

Ed

You need to go into Start Printers and Faxes (or Start Settings
Printers) and find your default printer. Right-click it, click Properties.
Find the paper size settings there, and set it to A4. Click OK.

Open the printer folder in the control panel, right-click your printer, click
printing preferences.., select A4 in this dialog.

Thanks, Ed and Mary. However, all is okay in that area. I've checked
everywhere, default printer and the other two (one is Microsoft Office Image
Writer which is disenabled) and all are set to A4. Regional settings are
okay and MS Word 2003 and Excel 97 have no problem. I'm beginning to think I
will need to reinstall publisher. But even that is no guarantee.

It might help to know that when in Page Setup//Layout//Full Page, "Page
Size" is missing and the "Printinig Options" button is greyed out.

Why on earth it doesn't have a "Default" option like Word, I don't know.

Any other suggestions will be gratefully received.

Best wishes,

Ed

What model printer are you using? Have you checked on the manufacturer's web site for
an upgraded driver?
If you decide to reinstall the printer this article will be beneficial:

Hi, Mary. I'm using a HP 950c Deskjet - USB - with the latest driver,
downloaded
quite recently. I generally keep everything well up to date. I'm running XP
Home SP2 and, apart from a small screen resolution problem have had no other
problems. The whole thing is a complete mystery to me. I'm quite surprised
there is no simple selection for a default paper setting the same as in MS
Word.

Since last writing I have uninstalled and reinstalled Publisher with no
change. I was invited to download Office SP1 but hesitate as I have Office
97 as the base and have upgraded with Word 2003 and Publisher 2003. I am
still using Excel 97 along with the other apps. Should anything go wrong,
SP1 cannot be uninstalled.

It's not the end of the world, but I really would like to have things as I
want them.

Can you say that Publisher will normally keep A4 as default if selected, or
is Letter size a fixed default that really can't be changed?

Did you get your driver from the UK site? I wonder if that makes a difference... The
HP support has a document that your issue happens with French drivers.

Try this, open the printer folder, right-click the printer, click properties,
advanced tab, printing default button, maybe setting it up in this dialog will do it.

Hi, Mary. Visited the HP website and had them do a remote check of my PC.
On their site you select your country first before moving onto the drivers
section. The check states: "You are using the latest driver! A check of your
driver settings shows no problems." I have placed the problem on their
Support page and can expect an answer pretty quickly. (HP are very good at
this)! I'll get back when I've heard from them.
