My client side rules don't work offline in Outlook 2003. Is this a
known bug when using 'cached exchange mode'

No, rules should work as long as Outlook is "online". Do they work if you
use run now? What type of rules are they?

They run fine when I am online with the exchange server. Offline use
is when they don't run.

When I am offline, and choose the menu choice 'rules and alerts' I get
a message that says I must be online to work with them. Makes sense.
Except I loose the option to manually run the rules while offline too.

Is this as known bug?

Neal,

in my experience, they don't work in "pure" offline mode, but they do
work in cached mode even when not connected to the server. Sometimes,
they don't work even then - and my suspicion is that they do work if I
have been connected to the server once after starting OUtlook, and then
go into non-connected cached mode.

This is ridiculous, if it's like you've said (which sounds reasonable,
now that I've spend hours to find out what the problem with my OL2k3
rules not working offline is.)

How can the guys at Redmond be so ignorant about traveling users?

I mean, I've recently moved away from Eudora to OL2k3 *because* of the
new features (junk mail filter, *working* identities, etc) and the
ability to migrate my whole email archive (some 20.000 emails.)

Before that I had to use two programs, Eudora for emails and Outlook
for calendar and contacts. I've been heavily using filters and rules
in Eudora before and I've migrated them to OL2k3 (by hand, of course,)
too, just to find them absolutely unuseful while not being online with
my Exchange server. I get a lot of emails from different accounts
daily and when on the road these are cluttering my inbox and I've to
sort'em out myself. What a concept!

Yes, M$, I am upset about that! If it wouldn't be partly impossible
(and that much pain in the ass,) I'd move back to Eudora and even
start using something else to organize my contacts and calendar.

Nice job, M$, thanks :-(

Why does a dog lick his b*lls?

Seriously, I understand that you get angry about this. I guess I have
used Outlook for so long, that I am just beyond that - I work around
the many quirks it has.
