Default Can't find the Custom Animation task pane

Help! I'm trying to add an animation path but can't access the Custom
Animation task pane. It simply doesn't appear in the dropdown list.

In short, I've used View Task Pane and see the pane. Then the dropdown at
the top only lists these options:
o Getting Started
o Help
o Search Results
o Clip Art (this is grayed out)
o Research
o Clipboard
---
o New Presentation
o Template Help (this is grayed out)
o Shared Workspace
o Document Updates
---
o Slide Layout
o Slide Design
o Slide Design - Color Schemes
o Slide Design - Animation Schemes
o Slide Transition

Anyone have an idea of what's going on? Did I mistakenly change a
configuration setting?

Thanks,
- Dan

p.s. I am not over-animating the slide, so don't worry. I just need two
shapes to follow a predetermined path.

Check Tools/Options and see if you've turned off the PPT 2003 animations and
transitions. (I think it's on the General tab in Tools/Options.)

Not really sure, but you can try this:

1. Click "Tools", "Options".
2. Click the "Edit" TAB
3. Make sure the "New animation effects" aren't disabled.

When this happens, you don't get the taskpane, but the old dialog box.
another thing to try is to right-click your object and select "Custom
Animation" from the shortcut menu. Do you get the Taskpane or the dialog
box? If the dialog box, the above steps will fix this.

I forgot to add that I'm using PowerPoint 2003.

I can get to the Custom Animation dialog by right-clicking
a shape or through the toolbar button, but can't access
the more sophisticated controls that are on the task pane.

Thx.

Thanks Echo!

Under Tools/Options on the Edit tab there is a checkbox
that controls "Disable new features - New Animation
Effects"

I unchecked it and that did the trick.
Thanks!
