Default How do I set up a large poster in Publisher?

I need to set up a large format poster (42"x96") and have a large format
plotter (HP5500) that is capable of printing the poster. However, Publisher
does not seem recognize the roll feature on the plotter and truncates all
requests for large format paper sizes supported by the plotter to its
internal list of 24x36. Banner format defaults to 5'x7" and it will not
accept the 42" width of the plotter paper.

Using the internal scaling of the plotter causes all sorts of weird
problems.

There must be a way. The default way to make large posters is to use
PowerPoint, but that is a miscarraige of software. Publisher should be the
tool.
