Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
I'm hoping someone can help me with this one....
I am running Outlook 2007 with Vista. On sending an email to a contact I click on the "to" box, select the name etc to bring up the display name of the contact in the email message box (name and email address). But it will not send the email - the send receive process works fine but the email stays in the outbox. However, if I type the email address directly into the "to" box and send, the message goes fine. So it would seem to be something with Outlook rather than my email settings? Any ideas? Thank you. |

It sounds like the email address is not resolving. Did you import your contacts by any chance? Once you put the name in the TO field, try manually resolving it by pressing Alt+K.

Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
I did import the contacts - they were originally on my pda - i used this to
update outlook 2002 on my new computer which I then upgraded to outlook 2007. I think the email address is resolving because it comes up with the address in brackets after the name in the to box? I've tried it anyway and no good. "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: It sounds like the email address is not resolving. Did you import your contacts by any chance? Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
I've just tried setting up a brand new contact and sending an email to this
one. and it worked. Does this mean all the contacts that were imported have somehow been corrupted? Do I need to set them all up again. Just changing the email address of the contact did not seem to make any difference. "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: It sounds like the email address is not resolving. Importing or synching is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data. Do
you back up your data? Just find your most recent version of your Outlook data file and open it in Outlook. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Adrian" wrote in message ... Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
Bunk. This is not a bug. This is end user error pure and simple. You are not
paying attention to this thread. The mere fact that you exported your data is just more proof of what we have all posted here countless times and the fact that you ignored it. If you really want help, then state clearly what you did so we can tell you what you did wrong and how to fix it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "dith" wrote in message ... I would like to throw my two cents in here as well. I upgraded from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007/Vista. I exported the .pst file to the new computer to get my info moved over.....the process was pretty smooth. Now if I try to use my address book to send email to addresses, I believe that the "display name" john smith ) is preventing Outlook from allowing the send. The email won't leave my outbox and it hangs. If I type into the "to" field it works fine. I beleive that this IS an Outlook bug....I spent an hour on the phone with an AT&T tech and he said he had never seen this before but agreed with my assessment. Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
Ok, since you are so fixated on user error here, why would my address book
work just fine in Outlook 2003 (previous home machine and current work machine), but the same address book won't work on 2007? When everything else has been eliminated, the answer remains. Everything else works, it is 2007 that is the new part. One more time for the record......old machine (2003) exported outlook data to .pst file......moved that file to the new machine and imported it. Everything looked good (by the way, is the not the MS recommended method for moving outlook data?).....emails were there, contact were there, calendar events were there. My address books have always had user name has not changed (read my previous thread). Why is it only NOT working in outlook 2007? What more can I say? It seems like a cut and dry issue. It appears that the only way to fix it is to open 100's of contacts and make the "display name" field read as the email address only. I say bug! "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Bunk. Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
Read the countless posts here on how you migrate data correctly to a new
installation. You never export or import. You never use Windows Easy Transfer. You never rely on an in place upgrade. You create a new Outlook profile from scratch, open your previous data file, set it as your default, then configure the Outlook Address Book Service to use your Contacts. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "dith" wrote in message ... Problem with sending email to contacts in Outlook 2007
Ok, I hadn't read that anywhere previous to importing, but as soon as I tried
to sync my home address book to my Axim, I would have ended up with duplicate contacts, or overwriting the file....this would have placed me right back where I am.....so, the question is, other than opening every email contact and placing the actual address on the display line, is there another workaround?
