Excel automatically formats data as dates when pasting
Hi
I frequently copy and past data from a particular website and paste it into Excel 2000. The data is in the form x-y, where both x and y are integers. Unfortunately, depending on the values of x and y, Excel automatically formates the pasted data as dates. How can I stop this? I know I can use the importing function to pull data in from a web page and via that I can switch off the automatic formatting. However, the webpage concerned is password protected so this method doesn't work. Please help as this is driving me nuts Cheers Alistair |

Any chance you could copy|paste into notepad. Save that as a .txt file and then
file|open the text file in excel. Then you can specify Text for those fields. Alistair wrote: Hi I frequently copy and past data from a particular website and paste it into Excel 2000.
