Default After Using ScanPSt.Exe To Fix Corrupt PST Data FIle

After using scanpst.exe to fix my corrupted PST data file; my Contact's
folder seems to have all contacts but there are no titles associated with
their information modules. Also seems that my "INBOX" & "SENT" folders were
reduced in size as a result..

Most importantly, need to somehow fix my Contacts Titles to reflect what is
in their containment modules. Thank You In Advance For Any Direction …. Jim B

You'll have to explain what you mean by "containment modules".

Sorry Did not know how to explain but in OL when you click on contacts it
opens a windows with all your saved contacts. In my particualr situation I
have approx 1K saved, but since my scanpst process non of the names are
showing though I have all my contacts, I would have to do a search to find a
particular one & then hopefully click open to obtain all info. It seems to
also have reduced the sizes of my inbox & sent folders......Jim B

It sounds like scanpst did its best to repair what it could. You'll have to
recover the rest from your most recent backup.

Your best bet is to create a new .pst file in the unicode format.
File-new-outlook data file. Copy your items from the old one (most likely
ansi format) to the new one and make the new one your default .pst file.

Note - create the new .pst file in My Documents (in Vista
Users-Username-Documents) to ensure it is included by default in your
backups which you DO make weekly, right?

Importing is rarely the correct way to restore data. See this for a better
method:

Usually, when a message is corrupt, Outlook won't even download it from the
server, blocking it and all subsequent messages. If Outlook received the
message, then it wasn't corrupt at the time of reception and something
happened to the PST after that point.

It's really quite rare for a PST to begin to exhibit errors, except when it is
an old ANSI format PST and it has exceeded the size limit. I don't think it's
really necessary to use SCANPST periodically to ensure your PST stays healthy.
SOme of the commercially-available PST scanners can do a better job than
SCANPST, but they all cost money.

Hi Milly, Created new unicode pst file as instructed & cannot seem to get my
address book when I click on address book under tool's menu, Had renamed my
new pst file to -- "AgdeBackupUniCode.pst: --. Was able to set it up as
data file for OL (4.5GB & growing) but do not have my address book..? Please
help further if you would… Thank You

& yesI do back up all data daily with a program called "Super Flexible File
Synchronizer" It is a much more robust version of Briefcase w-many more
features built in! JJB

You may have done something wrong, then. Adding a new PST should pick up your
contacts for the address book view automatically. Right-click your Contacts
flder, choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab, and check the
box labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". Click OK. Stop and
restart Outlook.

This is not necessarily a backup. If this program does nothing more than make
a copy of the PST while Outlook is closed, then I'd say you're OK. Anything
else is risky.
